OUTSTANDING CAREER HELP AUTHORS, BOOKS, PUBLISHERS

The Career Industry's pivotal career help book will always be What Color Is Your Parachute. If you are a Career Pro (Human Resources, Recruiter, Career Coach, or Resume Writer), this book is the foundation for career planning perfection and comes up repeatedly in career pro lists of greatest books. 2500 Key Words That Get You Hired by Jay Block (McGraw-Hill)

A must-have for professional writers and job seekers, this book fully explains the methods behind inserting key words into your resumes so that automated tracking systems (ATS) used by employers and recruiters will find them. 2500 Key Words... contains key word lists and resume samples written by certified resume writers for hundreds of job titles showing how key words and their meanings are used in resume profiles and text.

Best Resumes for College Students and New Grads by Wendy S. Enelow and Louise M. Kursmark
A must-have for college students and new graduates of any age.

Tip for Job Seekers and Professional Resume Writers: The Resume Writing Industry (through our various organizations such as PARW, CDI, CTL, NRWA) is engaged in a massive reeducation of college job centers to bring their resume writing instruction courses up-to-date. I was quite dismayed by a young co-ed who believed her bulleted shopping list of skills would impress job fair recruiters. The bulleted list resume is now considered a low-level or dead (as late as 10 years) resume format because merely listing your expertise does not demonstrate your mastery. Keep only your best bullets, then ignite them with explosive 3-6 line stories about the Challenge you faced while taking Action to solve the problem, and ending with the Result of you endeavors. This is called the Challenge-Action-Result (CAR) method of resume writing, also known as Challenge-Context-Action-Result (CCAR), Problem-Action-Result (PAR), and Situation-Obstacle-Action-Result (SOAR). The bottom line: If you cannot write and speak about how you do your job, employers will believe you.
